Biography
Andrea Baruffi was born in Lizzano in Belvedere,Italy in 1949. He attended the High School of Art in Bologna and went on to earn a degree in Architecture in Florence in1975. Later in 1977 he moved to the U.S.A. where he soon attained great recognition for his work as a Graphic Illustrator by the leading New York Newspaper and Magazines, like The New York Times , Business Week, Fortune and the most important Advertising agencies in America, like Young and Rubicam, J.W.Thompson, Grey Adv. BBDO etc… He received Awards for The Dover Corp. Annual report, The Ryder Corp. as well as the national campaign for Artemide USA, and Blue Cross Blue Shield . His qualities as Graphic Designer and Illustrator, along with his creativity in Advertising secured him international notoriety. In 1991 he started using digital imaging in his work and from 1993 he began devoting himself very intensively also to painting and has partecipated in many Art shows and Contemporary art exhibitions. Andrea Baruffi’s pictoreal art research is inspired by William Hopper’s atmosphere , with a surreal and ironic elegance wich makes his work unmistakable. Baruffi’s paintings were displayed, as a one man show, in the following exhibitions: Gubbio (Palazzo dei Consoli) Bologna (L’Ariete artecontemporanea) Milano ( Silbernagl Undergallery) Venezia (Galleria Santo Stefano) Padova (Galleria Anna Breda Arte Contemporanea) He has partecipated in european art exhibitions like: Artissima(Torino), Miart (Milano), Museum Parma, St’Art Strasbourg( F), Lineart Gent (B), Holland Art Fair Den Haag (NL), ArtWien Vienna (A). His graphic work and paintings also appear in the new building of Cardiology and Cardiatic Surgery for the Padiatric Dept. of S.Orsola Hospital (Bologna), and Complesso Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza created by Saint Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo .
